We always follow strict health and safety guidelines and procedures in our practice.
Sterilisation
Disposable instruments are used whenever possible. All instruments and work surfaces are sterilised, following British Dental Association guidelines.
Injection needles, anaesthetic cartridges and surgical items are supplied sealed and sterile and are used only once.
Areas that are touched during treatment (such as handles, chair head rest and suction tubes) have disposable covers which are changed for each patient.
Items such as paper towels and plastic cups are used once and thrown away.
All other instruments are sterilised in a vacuum machine.
Radiography
Rooms with x-ray equipment and the dedicated x-ray room have lead-lined walls and lead-lined doors.
We use fully digitised Sirona x-ray machinery, which uses smaller doses of radiation than conventional units.
This can be reduced even further for children.
The machine also gives better results than conventional dental films.
Oakham Dental Studio meets all the Health and Safety regulations regarding Ionizing Radiation.
Other safety considerations
We follow all regulations regarding clinical waste disposal.
Sterilising vacuums and other pressure equipment is maintained according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
The practice is fully compliant with current fire regulations.
Walls in clinical areas can be scrubbed and floors are anti-slip and treated against fungi, viruses and bacteria including MRSA.
